Over the last couple of years, I’ve really taken to soccer. It doesn’t matter whether it is International or MLS or NWSL, I’ve just really grown to enjoy the sport. I remember when Coach Morgan brought soccer to Hickory. I’m not sure how quickly it took off, but I know that it grew steadily. Then, with the USA Women’s National Team’s success….there was an explosion of growth. Mia Hamm, who can forget her?

Next to music, Soccer may be the only international language, at least in the sporting world. Did you know we even have minor league teams in the US? For example, in Charlotte, NC; we have the Charlotte Independence. They are part of the USL. It’s not as fast paced as American Football. There’s no hurry up offense, but there’s a lot of strategy involved. It’s fun to watch and the players, both men and women, are riddled with talent.

Hope everyone has a great Friday!

Be glad. And, what’s your motive?

Psalm 68:3

It wasn’t long ago, a contact was looking for an assistant. Outside of being perfectly organized, I met the requirements. One thing this person would like to do is interview the World Famous Businessman Jeff Bezos, a man after your money. He wants all of it. At the same time, however, he now wants to give back and desires some good press with the Whole Foods purchase and educating women is his choice. Given his position, let’s think about that for a moment. One is promoting this endeavor, and they are one of my favorite organizations. They have big goals, and have accomplished much through the years. Even more impressive to me is how they are able to partner with organizations like Red and Global Citizen. They must play well with others to be able to manage such partnerships.

The timing of this is questionable, but holding back a person from doing a good work is questionable too. Think about what you have been taught all these years. One is that God’s thoughts are beyond our own. Another is not to worry. So, why not support this endeavor? The only thing that Mr. Bezos, a man known for being laser focused, may want to consider is exceeding his expectations. So, rather than giving just his money to 130 million girls perhaps he’ll double it? I don’t mean he’ll double it if you’ll match his giving, I am saying he’ll double his giving out of the goodness that is in his heart. It’s in all of us. So, what do you say Mr. Bezos? Are you willing to double it, triple it, quadruple it? Here’s a little information about the deal: Total Domination

-Studies Looking....png

“Studies looking specifically at blueberries and strawberries, which are rich in polyphenois, show they are associated with slower cognitive decline.” – Martha Clare Morris, SCO

There’s a free magazine I’ve been reading for quite some time called Neurology Now. The above quote is from the most recent issue from an article talking about foods that are good for the brain: food for thought.

Do you like inspirational stories? I find people that overcome adversity fascinating. That means everyone is fascinating because we all have some story, some sort of adversity we have overcome or are working on. Until last night, I had never heard of MasterChef Christine Ha. Does her name ring a bell?

She battles blindness due to an autoimmune disease called neuromyelitis optica or NMO for short. Here is some more info. – NMO

#meditation is for flunkies

Meditation is a thing. I was walking through New York a while back, and I passed a transcendental meditation studio. I believe there may have been a picture of Oprah in the window or something. Maybe, maybe not….I’m not sure how meditation has grown to become so chic. I do know that it is an effective form of loving one self in what is a crazy, chaotic world. Have you ever read the book Siddhartha? It’s a classic, typically provided to high school students. It was when I was in high school. Sid was the Buddhist Zen master seeking Nirvana. Basically, Nirvana is peace. Isn’t that something for which we are all looking?

Now, try to hold back your eye roll or pardon my ASSumption, but I’m a Christian. I may not have some traditional Christian views, but for me Jesus is, “the way the truth and the life.” There’s a popular song that has a lyric that says, “You are God, and that’s just the way it is.” That’s pretty much my view. I share that part of myself, because words are important. They can breakdown and shatter relationships or they can build them up. Typically, they do both.

Anyway, meditation is important. I encourage you to look into it. While you are at it, look into focused prayer. I like it the best, and I believe it may be more the transformative choice.

Speaking of healing, I was in a car accident a few years ago. Both legs were broken, and initially there was uncertainty about my walking again. Yoga is one of the reasons why I am walking as well as I am. Check it out.

It’s fun to play….

A while back, I was at an epilepsy symposium. It was interesting. I was surprised at how basic much of the information provided seemed to be given that there were people there getting continuing education credits if I remember correctly. I am grateful there are people that are interested in learning more about epilepsy. April is mental health awareness month apparently, and given the stigma attached to epilepsy there are those that often consider epilepsy a mental illness. I have a different, more positive perspective on the matter. Happy Cinco de Mayo! Drink responsibly 🙂

P. S. Check out the Cinco deals from Pac-Sun. I do get a very small commission if you make a purchase, but I just like some of the products they sell.

#bootlicking #fools #beingintheknow

Does it make you feel powerful to know something that someone else doesn’t know? Sometimes, it’s nice to be in the know. It can make you feel important, valued. That used to be a source of pride for me. Don’t get me wrong, sometimes secrets are meant to be kept between people and there is a “time and place for everything under the sun,” as we are taught. Yet, when it becomes a pupped-out chest sort of pride swilling menagerie….something has gone afoul.

I’m fond of that scene in Men in Black where K is recruiting J and K says something to the effect of people are foolish, panicky, and unpredictable. That’s not an exact quote. He goes on to say that, “a person is smart.” Isn’t that the truth? (I mutter with a sigh and somewhat sarcastically too 🙂

I know I can be foolish. I know I panic from time to time. I know I can be unpredictable, but that is part of what makes humanity wonderful, bearable, and embraceable. Don’t you think?

Nobody is perfect.

God, me, and wait for it….

checks and balances.

One year ago today I started writing this and I put it off to the side for some reason. I’m not sure why then, and I am not sure why I am writing it now. The timing is interesting though.

Do you remember Edward in the movie Pretty Woman? There’s a line in the movie where he says he had to go through a lot of therapy to say that he was very ANGRY with his father. Do you ever feel like that?

I don’t feel angry with my earthly father anymore. Sad sometimes, but God has taken away the anger that was there. I do, however, find myself extremely distrustful of men. It’s amazing how your experiences shape you. It’s odd how your perspective can be so disjointed to appear delusional. Of course, belief that you can find some sort of perfect balance in life is it’s own sort of delusional right.

#people #lift you #down

Overheard at a Washington, D.C. bar: “Truth is like poetry. And most people fucking hate poetry.” – The Big Short (2015)

Tough talk. People walking the walk. Ego monopolies.

Mega-gotta-stop-a-me.

Where there’s a way there’s a will.

Where there’s a sea there’s a seal,

Where there’s greed, you’ll find some person real.

Where there is judgement, look at your own reflection.

Danger! It’s a warning. It’s a reality. It’s laughable.

Security! It’s a desire. We really seek not it. It’s all retractable.

Where there is God, there is a way.

Where there is Hope, there is a way.

There is never a New Way or Old Way,

all things seem old school or new school

don’t you see?

Knowledge may be hunger, but in the end we

all die. So, I’m done with you. I love you, but

I’m done with you until you wake up and see there’s

more than just sky and vibes and irrational highs.
