There is a reason we met.

Do you remember anything about your middle school science class? Most of what I remember from school are words. Homeostasis is the word of the day for me. Defined by Wiki: Homeostasis is the property of a system in which variables are regulated so that internal conditions remain stable and relatively constant. Simply put, it’s a state of balance.

Do you remember talking about Amoebas? Water flows in an out of cells until they find a state of homeostasis. Here’s a great visual and different perspective.

I share this because I am so grateful for an individual I met a couple weeks ago….a nurse. You may have read in here before that I take a ton of medication for epilepsy. Well, one of the medications is the linchpin. Because my insurance company would not pay for the extended release version of this medication, I had to go back to the regular version. i have felt horrible for the last few weeks. It is mentally taxing, and physically taxing. My body, my cells, were out of their best version of homeostasis. When this happens to people on epilepsy meds (I can only speak for myself), it effects virtually everything. Rather than making progress, I was falling back in my epilepsy battle. However, because i answered the phone and allowed this lady into my home, I picked up a tidbit of information for which I am grateful, and I feel I need to share with others.

I look forward to sharing more, but for the time being if your insurance doesn’t cover a drug change, ask your doctor for an override.

I look forward to feeling more like myself again soon, and my cells falling back into a state of homeostasis.

  1. Wow! I don’t know whether you’re a believer or not, but thankfully this nurse showed up when she did. Thanks for the knowledge…never knew that docs could override the default medication. Best wishes with your fight. Everyone we know is battling something. NIce post…see you at Jacqueline’s party. 🙂
